Rachel Popik (she/her) is an anti-diet cook and the community manager of the PCOS Power Forward community, based in Philadelphia. Rachel is a lover of nature, foraging, food, and traveling. Dear food,
You have tricked me again. Over and over, promising to make me happy and content. Instead, you tempt me, and then my body shows the evidence of my choices after my routine labs. High insulin and testosterone in exchange for cookies and convenience foods. Ever since I went on that restrictive diet, I’ve been mad at you. I used to spend 6 hours every weekend prepping food for the week. Now one hour feels too long, and my body and mind are suffering because of how much I hate having to decide when and what to eat. How can I find joy in cooking again? How can I begin to love what I eat again, while supporting my body? I want to fall back in love with you, because right now our relationship is totally dysfunctional.
