Show Notes

Mentioned in this episode:

Key points:
  • It’s January, National Dieting Month, and diet talk is all over the place! These BONUS episodes are here to help get you through and avoid the diet seduction.
  • For some of us, all we KNOW is dieting. Even if we’ve hit diet rock bottom and we know diets don’t work, we don’t know another way.
  • Normative diet culture tells us that if we don’t engage in dieting, we are lazy and “letting ourselves go.” This is a black and white way of thinking… but life is not black and white.
  • Diversity is good! Thank god we’re not all the same… difference shouldn’t divide us.
  • Food is not an exact science!! Food is fluid, body image is fluid, and the science surrounding these concepts is always changing.
  • We CANNOT categorize any food behavior as an all-or-nothing situation. It is not health promoting.
  • We make over 200 decisions a day, so choosing to not diet is not going to come easy. It’s an active process that we have to think about constantly because we live in a world that tells us that dieting and being thin is the only way to experience health.
  • If you leave diets behind, you will probably experience push back from people around you… but don’t let this drag you down!
  • By choosing not to diet, you are not “letting yourself go.” You’re letting yourself BE. You’re letting yourself experience joy and the present.
  • Dieting disconnects us from what really matters, including things that we can do to better ourselves and better our world.
  • What can you invest time in now that you’re not putting all your brain energy into a diet? Maybe we could achieve world peace if we didn’t have dieting…
  • Choosing not to diet is going to bring you closer to wellbeing, health, and joy.
