Show Notes

Mentioned in this episode:

Key points:
  • It’s January, AKA National Dieting Month. This time of year can be filled with even more body shaming and food obsession than normal!
  • The term “overweight” implies that something needs to fixed, stopped, and gotten under control… but what does this even mean??? Over what???
  • I am a registered dietitian, I have a degree, and I know all about BMI and height to weight ratios. But the reality is that in one-on-one work, you start to see that the BMI spread just doesn’t make sense! It doesn’t account for age (BMI covers people 20 years and older), ethnicity, body composition… how can this measurement possibly apply to all bodies??
  • BMI is not an indicator of health!!!!
  • Genetics and body size/composition are more correlated than habits and body size/composition.
  • The greatest predictor or weight gain is dieting! The more one diets, the more they will weigh!!
  • Is it actually the fat that’s causing health problems? Name one disease that only impacts fat people… there aren’t any!! All research that suggests that fat equals disease is CORRELATIONAL research, not CAUSATIONAL research.
  • If we never went on our first diet and we never learned to hate our bodies, we would all be closer to health right now.
  • The way to move forward is to not think of your body as something that needs to be fixed.
  • January is a tough month… stay tuned for more Love, Food BONUS episodes to help get you through!!
